Soil piping-effect of irrigation on piping
Do you like this story?
Most of the literature on soil piping refers to its occurrence in natural conditions. Nevertheless soil piping can also develop in cultivated fields, even in irrigated areas. Measurements in one selected field with several irrigations throughout the year demonstrate that much water is lost through the pipe networks. Total erosion can be estimated at 3 t.ha−1.year−1, a very important rate in productive soils. Almost all of the soil losses come from the lower part of the field.
